The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is preparing to launch its new registration platform, Motus, designed to strengthen fraud prevention and enhance protection of your USDOT number. As part of this transition, all carriers are required to review and update their information in the FMCSA Portal.
To avoid any interruption to your operating authority, carriers must complete the necessary updates no later than May 14, 2026.
What You Need to Do
1. Confirm Your FMCSA Portal Account Is Active
FMCSA disables portal accounts after 90 days of inactivity and fully archives them after 12 months. Ensuring your account is active is the first step in preparing for the transition to Motus.
2. Review & Update Your Company Information
Carriers should verify their operating classification, contact information, and authorized personnel details to ensure all records are accurate and up to date.
3. Submit Your Biennial Update (MCS-150)
This mandatory update can be completed directly through the Registration
tab of the FMCSA Portal. Keeping this information current is essential for maintaining compliance.
4. Prepare for the Motus Transition
Only the designated Company Official—using the same Login.gov email listed in the Portal—will be able to claim and activate the company’s new Motus account. Confirm that your official contact information is correct to avoid delays during the transition.
If your Portal account has been deactivated, FMCSA requires you to contact their support team to restore access before proceeding.
Why This Matters
Failure to complete your updates or maintain an active FMCSA Portal account may result in USDOT number inactivation, which could interrupt your ability to operate. Taking action now ensures a smooth transition once Motus goes live and helps protect your business from operational disruptions.
